Harry Redknapp has denied reports that he has made a bid to bring Yakubu back to Portsmouth.

The Middlesbrough striker has been linked with a host of clubs including Birmingham City, and although Redknapp is still a fan of the powerful Nigerian, he has not made an approach.

“I like Yak, I signed him the first time round at Portsmouth and he was a good player for me,” Redknapp told Sky Sports News.

“But there is nothing in that, I’ve not made an offer for him.”

Redknapp, however did admit that he is still looking to strengthen his Pompey squad if the right player becomes available.

He added: “You never know, you’re always looking to improve.

“If the right player came along that would really give us a big push at this stage we would do it.

“You never sit back and think we’re okay. We’ve changed in the summer and brought a few players in.

“If we’re looking to finish as high as we did last year, we still need to keep improving.”
